For centuries, Scotland faced larger, wealthier. and better - equipped empires. Its survival relied on a mix of fierce local identity, rugged geography, and a mastery of asymmetric warfare-guerrilla tactics used by a smaller force to defeat a massive army.

“For two thousand years, the windswept hills of Scotland have defied invaders. The first track of this chronicle is called "The Ghost of the 9th Roman Legion" (the northern advance) during the campaigns of the Roman governor Gnaeus Julius Agricola in the 1st century AD (around 82-83AD), the Ninth Legion pushed deep into what is now modern-day Scotland. The Night Ambush; the Caledonian tribes launched a fierce surprise night attack on the Ninth Legion's camp. The tribesmen burst into the fortifications while the Romans were sleeping. The legion was nearly annihilated in brutal hand-to-hand  combat.
